An Alumni Chapter or Colony of Lambda Theta Phi is a group of brothers who are college graduates and wish to continue to uphold the values and principles of the fraternity.  Our Alumni entities must meet certain requirements before they are officially recognized by the fraternity.  If you are interested in joining an Alumni Chapter or Colony you may either contact that entity directly, or contact the National Director of Alumni Affairs here.

Starting an Alumni Chapter

Current rules for starting an alumni chapter call for applicants to first qualify for colony status before becoming an alumni chapter. Although this regulation is similar to the undergraduate chapter process there are several important differences. The Alumni Affairs Director will provide assistance to brothers seeking to establish a chapter. However, in addition to establish a chapter, alumni chapters must meet minimum requirements outlined below to remain active as a chapter.

The requirements are as follows:

Establishing a Colony

  • To apply for an alumni chapter (obtain alumni chapter colony status) the applicants must consist of a group of no less than 5 dues paid alumni brothers
  • The applicants must submit a letter requesting consideration along with resumes of the 5 brothers via Email, fax or postal mail to the Alumni Affairs Director
  • The application letter must identify an interim President, Vice President and Treasurer; a contact brother with mailing address, phone numbers and Email address; and approximate dates which dues were paid
  • The letter must also identify tentative plans for at least one community service, one social event, one event with undergrads through a chapter, sector or mixed group, all to take place within 12 months of the date of their letter
  • The letter must be submitted to the Alumni Affairs Director for review and approval before being, approved by the National President to implement a “colony” status for the group.” (the presidents approval does not supercede the National Boards right to deny colony status via a regular majority vote)

Achieving Active Status

  • An alumni colony can apply for chapter status immediately upon completion of the colony requirements which should be done in less than one year
  • To move from colony status to chapter status an Alumni Colony must elect an Executive Board that must include, but not be limited to: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Administrative Officer
  • They must also have completed one community service, one social and one event with undergrads through a chapter or sector
  • They must maintain an Email contact, have their own incorporation and a membership of no less than alumni 10 dues paid brothers
  • They have held meetings at least four times a year and submit reports on their plans and activities 4 times a year to the National Alumni Affairs Director in the months of December, March, June and September

Alumni Affairs Director will be empowered to grant an exception or extension to any of these provisions if a written request to do so is submitted; however, any decision to grant or deny such a request may be overturned by the National Executive Board.

Maintaining an Alumni Chapter

To remain active as an Alumni Chapters, chapter must comply with the same guidelines for “achieving chapter status” inclusive of the annual events, member count and reporting requirements. Alumni Affairs Director is empowered to grant an exception or extension to these provisions if a written request to do so is submitted; however, any decision ... may be overturned by the National Executive Board.
